I lost my license

Restore your latest license directly in the software using your purchase email.

I lost my license: how do I restore it?
  1. Open Detect Email, then the License menu.
  2. Click I lost my license and enter the email address used for your purchase.
  3. Confirm: the application looks up the latest Detect Email license for that address and automatically fills in User, Email and License if it finds one.
  4. If the license is still active, click Validate and restart the application when prompted.

You do not need to receive an email with a key or copy values into the fields for this recovery process. If the latest license has expired, the application shows its expiration date and how long ago it expired; recovery does not renew it. Good news: the former-customer 30% offer is available for a new annual license.

If no license for this product is found or validation fails, contact support with your purchase email and order reference. Never post your full key in the chatbot.

Sending email: SMTP setup

Start with a test message to an address you control. SMTP sends messages; IMAP reads and processes incoming replies.

How do I set up my first email campaign, step by step?
  1. Prepare a dedicated business email address that can receive replies, and obtain its SMTP settings from your email provider.
  2. Open E-Mailing, then Configure and the sending settings. Labels follow the language selected in the application.
  3. Enter the SMTP hostname, port, username, password and secure connection mode. SMTP and IMAP settings are not interchangeable.
  4. Enter an authorized sender address and a test recipient you control. Run the send test.
  5. Check actual receipt, including the spam folder, and reply to the test to confirm where responses arrive.
  6. Save the settings. Prepare a small test list, your message and an opt-out instruction before sending a live campaign.

What belongs in Server, Port, Username and Password?

Server: the SMTP hostname supplied by your provider, without https:// or a web path. Port: the submission port for that service. Username: often the full email address; some relays issue a separate login. Password: the SMTP credential or application password required by the provider.

Your Detect Email license, website password and search credits are not mailbox credentials. The sender address must be authorized on the SMTP account.

Which SMTP service should I use, and how many emails can I send?

The optional E-Mailing module sends through your own compatible SMTP service. It is not locked to one sending provider: a standards-based service that permits username/password authentication and a supported TLS/SSL connection can be configured with the server details supplied for your account. Provider policies may restrict SMTP access. Compare plans and choose the cost and sending volume that fit your campaigns; Detect Email does not sell SMTP sending credits. The provider sets its own price, allowance, rate limits and delivery rules.

turboSMTP

turboSMTP is one third-party example, not a required service or an exclusive partner. Check its current plans, connection settings and account limits before choosing it.

Plans and pricing · SMTP setup · Provider support

Enter the SMTP server, port, username and password supplied by your provider, select its secure connection mode and send a test message. To preserve useful replies and process STOP requests, separately configure the IMAP mailbox that receives replies. Review the classifications and apply cleanup deliberately; STOP management is not continuous background monitoring. Detect Email search credits are not SMTP sending credits.

Which port and TLS / SSL options should I use?
Provider settingTypical application setting
SMTP with STARTTLSPort 587, TLS checked, SSL unchecked
SMTP with implicit TLSPort 465, SSL checked, TLS unchecked
Another port or dedicated relayFollow the provider’s exact instructions

These are common mappings, not universal settings. Do not enable both modes at random or disable encryption to bypass an error. Port 993 is normally for IMAP, not SMTP sending.

The test succeeded. Will every message reach the inbox?

No. SMTP acceptance means the sending server accepted responsibility for the message. A later rejection, spam classification or recipient-side filter is still possible. Check actual receipt, links, images, signature and the ability to reply. Sending through external SMTP does not necessarily create a copy in your webmail’s Sent folder.

Use several controlled tests and review the feedback before sending a larger campaign.

Link to this answer
Why does SMTP connection or authentication fail?
  1. Check the hostname, port and TLS/SSL combination.
  2. Re-enter the full username without spaces. Successful webmail login does not prove that SMTP access is allowed.
  3. Check application-password requirements and whether the sender address has been verified.
  4. Review provider restrictions: remaining credits or allowance, rate limit, suspended account, authentication policy or blocked network access.
  5. For a timeout, ask your administrator to check the firewall and port rather than disabling PC protection globally.

The application prepares your messages; the SMTP server delivers them. Ask your provider for the exact settings and review its dashboard and sending logs. If the account and settings are confirmed but the issue remains, contact Detect Email support with the exact error message. Never send anyone your password.

Can I use Gmail, Google Workspace, Outlook or Microsoft 365?

Only where the account permits the authentication method offered by the application. These settings use a server, username and password; they do not offer an interactive OAuth “Sign in with Google/Microsoft” flow.

A Google application password may work where the account permits it. Exchange Online has removed basic IMAP authentication: changing the port or entering a regular account password will not restore it. Ask your administrator about compatibility, and use a compatible service or external sending platform if needed.

How should I set sending speed and avoid account blocks?

Set the sending pace to fit your provider’s allowance. Start with a small batch and increase only if permitted and if the feedback is satisfactory. Per-minute, hourly and daily limits may all apply.

Search credits and SMTP quotas are separate. A PREMIUM license does not increase your email provider’s sending allowance. Do not work around a suspension by creating more accounts.

How can I reduce bounces and spam placement?

Use an identifiable domain and sender, a relevant offer, an accurate subject and a cleaned recipient list. Have your domain or email administrator check SPF, DKIM and DMARC. Avoid very large attachments and messages that consist only of an image.

Honor opt-outs and your provider’s acceptable-use rules. No setting, test or software product can guarantee 100% delivery.

Replies, STOP requests and IMAP cleanup

Connect the dedicated mailbox, review the categories, protect useful replies, then deliberately run cleanup.

How do I connect the mailbox that receives replies?
  1. From E-Mailing, open Replies / reply management (the “Réponses” screen in the French interface).
  2. Enter the IMAP server for the mailbox that actually receives the replies, its port, full email address and IMAP-authorized password.
  3. For typical encrypted IMAP settings, use 993 with SSL/TLS enabled, subject to your provider’s instructions.
  4. Choose Connect to server. Wait for the analysis and review the STOP, INVALID and REPLY groups.

Connection and analysis do not initiate cleanup. The separate Clean server action applies the cleanup choices.

Link to this answer
Which messages are examined? Are spam and subfolders included?

The module scans the configured account’s IMAP inbox (INBOX), including messages already read. It does not automatically scan every subfolder or the spam folder. If mailbox rules move incoming replies, review those folders in your email client as well.

Use a dedicated mailbox: the scan is not restricted to responses to the latest campaign. A personal or shared inbox containing important orders is not an appropriate first test.

Link to this answer
Which settings remove STOP messages but keep useful replies?

After a backup and a review of the classification, use these choices:

Cleanup optionChoice
Delete STOP and INVALID emails on the serverEnable to remove messages in those categories
Delete REPLY emails on the serverLeave disabled to keep replies
Add deleted email addresses to the BLACKLISTEnable to record exclusions for the affected addresses
Delete email addresses from LISTSEnable to remove them from lists in the active database

Then select Clean server. Blacklist and list-removal actions follow the categories selected for deletion; they are not separate scans.

Deletion affects your mail server and may be permanent. Do not assume messages go to Trash. Keep the REPLY deletion option disabled.

Link to this answer
Does cleanup remove prospects who have not replied?

No. A silent prospect is not an incoming message to clean up. The module examines messages in the inbox: STOP requests, automatic/error messages and other replies. It does not perform an exhaustive comparison between all campaign recipients and everyone who replied.

“Remove unwanted incoming messages and keep useful replies” does not mean “delete every contact who did not answer.” No response, an invalid address and an unsubscribe request are different situations.

Link to this answer
How should I write the STOP instruction in a campaign?

Include a clear instruction in every message, for example: “To stop receiving our emails, reply to this message with STOP in the subject.” Use a sender address that accepts replies, and connect that mailbox to the IMAP module.

The classifier looks for STOP in the subject or near the beginning of received plain text. It cannot understand every possible request. Review and honor requests phrased differently too. This reply-based mechanism does not depend on a Detect Email-hosted unsubscribe link.

Link to this answer
Is the STOP / INVALID / REPLY classification always correct?

No. Classification uses message content and indicators. An out-of-office response, confirmation or delivery error may appear as INVALID without proving that the address is permanently unusable. Quoted text containing an earlier STOP instruction can also be ambiguous.

Review the groups and original messages in webmail before deletion. Addresses can be identified in content and headers, not just the sender field. The REPLY category is not a sales qualification or a guarantee of a human-written response.

Link to this answer
How do I protect useful messages before cleanup?

First test with a normal reply and a STOP message from another address you control. Review the classification and back up the mailbox before deleting anything. If a useful message is misclassified, move it outside INBOX in your email client, then rerun the analysis before cleanup.

The module finalizes IMAP deletions; messages previously marked for deletion by another client can also be affected. Do not run cleanup from several applications against the same inbox at the same time.

Link to this answer
What is the difference between deleting a message, removing an address and blacklisting?
  • Delete on the server: removes the incoming message from the IMAP mailbox.
  • Delete from lists: removes the identified address from searches in the active database, potentially across several lists.
  • Blacklist: records an exclusion for subsequent sending.

Review exclusions before each campaign. Local blacklists are not automatically synchronized with another computer or an external platform that received an exported list.

Link to this answer
Does reply handling run continuously in the background?

No. You open the module, start analysis and then trigger cleanup with your chosen options. Classification and actions within the batch are automated, but this screen is not a permanent reply-monitoring service.

Schedule regular reviews, especially before a new campaign. Continue reading the mailbox for unsubscribe requests that do not use the word STOP.

Link to this answer
Sending works, but I cannot retrieve replies. Why?

SMTP and IMAP are separate services. A sending relay may not host a receiving mailbox at all. Check the actual mailbox provider, IMAP access rights, port, encryption and authentication policy, and confirm that replies arrive at that address.

A successful sending test does not validate IMAP. If the provider requires OAuth and refuses password authentication, this form cannot replace that requirement. Do not expose mailbox passwords or customer correspondence in support screenshots.

Verification, lists, exports and backups

Review results before outreach and keep your exclusions up to date.

How do I verify emails after a search?

Open the result list and use its cleanup/verification action. Wait for the report before using the results. Verification is separate from collection: a newly displayed address does not mean a complete verification has just occurred.

An address can later become inactive, and some domains do not permit conclusive checks. An indeterminate result does not prove invalidity. Verification guarantees neither consent nor delivery.

Link to this answer
How do I avoid contacting the same prospect twice?

Use deduplication and review merged or imported lists. One business may have several legitimate email addresses; deduplicating email addresses does not necessarily merge all records for a business.

Check sending history and exclusions before a campaign. A newly exported file does not automatically know what you sent through a different tool.

Link to this answer
How do I export for Excel or another email platform?
  1. Open the list and decide whether to export all results or selected rows.
  2. Choose Export, select the available fields and format: spreadsheet CSV, text or the application’s own format, depending on the screen.
  3. Save a new file and inspect columns and characters.
  4. In Excel, use text/CSV import if everything appears in one column.

For an external platform, follow its import format and acceptable-use policy. Exports do not provide native synchronization of campaigns or unsubscribes.

Link to this answer
Where is my data, and how should I back it up?

Lists and working data are stored locally. Before reinstalling, moving computers or performing major cleanup, close the application and back up its data, configuration and preferences for your installation. A CSV export alone does not preserve all history or settings.

Protect backups because they can contain contacts and mail settings. Never upload your user-data folder to a public website. Ask support about the exact backup scope before removing or moving an installation.

Link to this answer
Can I import data from the previous version?

When the 2027 service launches, Detect Email 2026 stops working: download the latest Detect Email version. This edition has been extensively redesigned and includes new AI features.

At first launch, if the 2026 installation is recognized and eligible data or a license is found, the migration assistant offers to bring them over: confirm the import, keep a backup and close the old application while importing. An empty old installation may not trigger an offer.

A current, valid license for the right product remains compatible. Importing an expired license does not renew it, and a historical key for another edition cannot activate 2027. Migration does not synchronize two computers or relocate another 2027 installation.

Prepare and manage an email campaign

A small controlled campaign is the best check before a real send.

How do I create a message and select recipients?
  1. Open E-Mailing and load your email list.
  2. Choose New message or open a saved message.
  3. Set an identifiable sender name, an authorized sender address and a specific subject.
  4. Write the content, signature and opt-out instruction; check the links.
  5. Review recipients and exclusions, then test with your own addresses before selecting Send.
Link to this answer
Can I use templates and personalize messages?

Use the templates and personalization fields offered by the editor. Insert variables using its controls rather than inventing placeholder syntax. Test several records, including a contact without a name or company, to avoid empty greetings.

Save the message for reuse and adapt its subject and offer to each audience. A template is not automatically compliant with every country’s rules or every SMTP provider’s policy.

Link to this answer
How do I use the writing assistant?

Open the editor’s writing assistant, describe your offer, intended audience, benefits and signature, then select the language and available options. Review the result carefully: contact details, prices, promises, links and opt-out wording must be accurate.

The assistant drafts text; it does not validate your commercial offer or compliance. You can still write manually if the service is unavailable.

Link to this answer
How should I use images and attachments?

Add images and attachments using the editor’s controls, then perform a real test send. Check the result on another device: a local file path is not a public link that your recipient can access.

The legacy hosted image and tracking services are no longer part of the 2027 workflow. Do not reuse their old URLs. Keep attachments reasonably small and make the message understandable without images.

Link to this answer
Can I track all opens or safely resend after an interruption?

Sending states describe submission and errors; they do not prove that a recipient opened, read or welcomed your message. The old hosted tracking service is no longer provided.

After an interruption, review the history before restarting the whole list. A message already accepted by SMTP may still be on its way even if the local display has not updated. Check your provider’s logs where delivery is uncertain.

Contact forms and advanced settings

Choose an appropriate contact channel and review each interaction.

How do contact-form discovery and assisted completion work?

Select Messages / contact forms when setting up the search. Open a result and configure your details and message in the module’s settings. Review recognized fields and complete any fields that were not filled correctly.

Forms vary by website. CAPTCHA, consent choices, validation and final submission may require your intervention. Do not bypass these protections. Finding a contact page does not guarantee successful automatic completion or submission.

Link to this answer
Should I change Big Data, performance or per-domain limits?

Start with the defaults and adjust your target activity and area first. Advanced options can affect collection scope, resource usage, duplicates or the number of addresses retained per domain.

A domain limit reduces long lists coming from one website. Broader exploration does not guarantee more relevant prospects. Change one setting at a time and compare results on an area you know.

Licenses, trial and search credits

The software license, search capacity and your email provider’s quotas are separate matters.

How do I activate my license?

Open the license menu and copy the three values supplied with your purchase: user, email and license key. Use the supplied identity exactly, without extra spaces. Make sure the key is for Detect Email rather than Contact Express, and that the PC has Internet access.

A key that has expired or been disabled cannot be reactivated by importing it or reinstalling the software. If activation fails, send support the purchase email and order reference, never your SMTP password.

Link to this answer
What does the Detect Email license include?

Detect Email offers one international license with PREMIUM coverage for every country currently selectable in the application across five continents. The United States, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Morocco and Australia are examples. Check the expiration date and remaining capacity after activation.

The checkout page defines the price and term of the offer purchased. A manually issued license may have a different term. The license does not remove search-service allowances or your provider’s SMTP limits.

Link to this answer
Can I use the license on more than one computer?

The Starter Pack includes one Windows computer; the Annual License includes two Windows computers. Computers using the same license share its search credits. The server currently keeps a technical tolerance of up to three concurrent sessions for migration and recovery; this tolerance does not increase the number of computers included in the offer.

If a session limit is reached, close an instance on another computer. After an abrupt disconnection, allow about three minutes without activity for the old session to expire before retrying. There is no until-midnight lockout.

Link to this answer
What can I test in demonstration mode?

The demonstration lets you explore the workflow and results, subject to the limits displayed in the application: search duration, remaining capacity, partially masked contact details and functions reserved for a paid license. Each demonstration search is limited to ten minutes.

Masking is not an extraction error. Demo credits can run out independently of the remaining trial time; trying again tomorrow does not guarantee that the demo allowance resets.

Link to this answer
How do credits and the reserve work?

Available capacity depends on the server’s rules and your previous usage. The reserve allows more room for occasional concentrated research, but does not remove the monthly ceiling. Use the application’s current capacity information rather than a prediction in hours.

A credit does not represent a fixed number of emails or websites. Duplicates, cached results, explored pages and public data availability affect the yield. Multiple computers on one license share consumption.

Link to this answer
What should I do if credits run out or the license expires?

Read the message to distinguish exhausted search capacity, a verification allowance, the demonstration time limit and license expiry. Repeatedly restarting a search will not reset a quota. Wait for the relevant allowance renewal or contact support if the state appears incorrect.

An expired license requires the renewal process. Restoring a backup does not change its contractual end date. License and billing questions should include your purchase email and order reference.

Link to this answer
Will my older or perpetual license work with version 2027?

A current Detect Email license that is valid for the current edition can be used with version 2027. A perpetual license sold for an older edition lets you keep using that edition, but does not include free upgrades forever. Version 2027 has changed substantially, including artificial-intelligence features, and requires a suitable license.

To use your earlier edition, download Detect Email 2020.9 and use the license associated with that edition. Back up your data before installation and check that the archive matches your purchase. To use version 2027, former customers can access a 30% discount on the annual license. Reinstalling does not renew an expired license.

If you are unsure about your entitlement to version 2027, contact support with your purchase email and order reference; do not post your complete key publicly.

Installation and troubleshooting

Keep your environment secure and send support useful details, never secrets.

How do I install and start version 2027?

Download the official installer, close any running instances and follow the Windows setup wizard. The application requires Windows components including .NET Framework 4.8 and Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime; setup reports a missing prerequisite.

The installed application connects to the online service. A customer PC does not need PHP, the local server simulation or a development launch script. The website can be viewed on mobile, but the application runs on Windows.

Link to this answer
What if Windows or antivirus software blocks startup?

Verify the download source and the exact file reported, then send the alert to support. Do not disable antivirus globally or restore quarantined files without investigation. Even an uncompressed installer can trigger a security warning.

A WebView2, .NET, file-permission or network error is not the same as an antivirus alert. Record the exact message rather than assuming the cause.

Link to this answer
Do I need Internet? Why can the website work while the app cannot connect?

Internet is required for license checks and searches; SMTP and IMAP need their own connections. Browser and application traffic can be subject to different policies. Check Windows date/time, proxy configuration, HTTPS filtering and the displayed error.

Ask your administrator to permit legitimate access without disabling network protection. An accessible website does not prove that a mail port is open.

Link to this answer
What should I send when contacting support?

Include the product, exact version, Windows version, steps taken, expected result and error text. For search issues, add country, area, activities, selected contact types and counters. For mail issues, include provider, hostname, port and TLS/SSL choice, but never a password.

Redact customer details and full keys from screenshots. For license or invoice questions, include the purchase email and order reference. Use the Contact page.

Responsible outreach

Collection and cleanup tools do not replace your responsibilities to recipients.

Does a public email address automatically permit marketing?

No. Availability in any supported country is not permission to email every address. Laws and provider rules differ by destination, sender and channel. Check the rules that apply before a campaign, identify your sender, keep the offer relevant and honor opt-outs.

For the United States specifically, commercial B2B email is subject to CAN-SPAM, including accurate sender information and subjects, a valid postal address, a clear opt-out and honoring opt-outs within ten business days. Read the FTC business guide. The software does not certify compliance in any country.

Link to this answer
Must I honor an opt-out that does not contain STOP?

Yes. Honor a clear request not to be contacted even when automatic classification misses it. Keep exclusions current across all tools, avoid reimporting opted-out recipients, and retain only the information needed for your legitimate purposes.

Review the rules for the destination country and maintain human oversight of replies. A cleaned list or technically valid address does not replace that responsibility.
